Winter is almost here, which means BIG snapper time.

The school snapper are moving out to the deeper waters, however some of the large snappers with a greater biomass that can handle the colder waters remain behind and take up residence around reefy systems about the gulf.

These snapper tend to forage around foul ground feeding on kina and shellfish. They smash open things with there head and often form ugly bumps and scars, this is obvious on Kens fish in the photo. We have been targeting these snapper by soft baiting in the shallows. The best fish so far was caught by Ken Brown-Bayliss and weighed in at 10.05 kg after a great battle in the shallows.

The fishing has been fantastic the past few weeks. On our full day trips we have been targeting Big Snappers in the shallows in the mornings, and then moving out to the 50M area to load up on good eating sized fish. There have also been work ups out in these deeper areas.
